I Didn't Like Your Post

A brief meditation on Facebook, fear, and the love (fear) of men.

I didn’t like your post,

Though I thought it be true:

I was scared of my tribe

And what they might think of you.

I didn’t like your post,

Though what you said was right:

I’d rather stay silent

Than be questioned in their sight.

I didn’t like your post,

And to myself I lie,

‘Now’s not a good time,

It’s not what you said, but why.’

I didn’t like your post:

It walks a narrow road;

It means rebuking friends

And breaking unwritten code.

I didn’t like your post;

Yes, I am being a child

The thumb is in my mouth,

Silencing voice; heart defiled.

…

I do yet like your post,

But still you stand alone;

Whispering, ‘Not my fight,’

As I scroll down, down, my phone.
